Ants come marching in! – Ways to avoid invasion.

The ants come marching in! Ways to help curve the ant invasion.

Like every other year in Tucson, the warm weather has brought out the bugs. Ants are crawling out of the ground foraging for food with no time to waste. These journeys can sometimes lead these creatures into your home.

Having ants in your home can be a serious hassle, but not to worry we at Essential Pest Control have a few tips for you.

 Get rid of the temptation

Ants are attracted to sugary and fatty foods, so keeping you sugars, syrups and sweet treats in airtight containers will help prevent ant infestations. Keep fatty foods and anything else that would attract ants in the fridge. Food bowls for pets should have a water moat as a barrier to deter the ants.

 Keep it clean

Ants usually shy away from acidic things like vinegar and lemon. Cleaning outside planters, benches and patio décor with a little vinegar will help break their chemical trail. Counter tops, sinks and cabinets may sometimes have juice and other liquid spills. Using lemon or vinegar solutions to clean them will help break up any chemical trails that may be present.

 Baits and chalks

Using baits and chalky substances can be a tricky thing to do, some choose to take the DIY route while others are not as comfortable. There are many things to watch out for when using bates and chemicals. If bates are not used correctly, it could increase the amount of ant traffic. When it comes to chemicals, you should always read the labels before applying. A lot of factors come in to play with application such as, Tucson weather/wind, foot traffic areas, ponds, and so on. If you have any doubts about any of these factors, call a professional.

As you know, Essential Pest Control is here to help.
