Where do Silverfish get their name?

One misunderstanding in regards to Silverfish is that people think they’re a type of fish.  However, the reality is they are not.  Silverfish can’t even swim.  So where does this name come from?

SilverfishSilverfish get their name due to their shiny, grey coloring.  They range is size from ½ to 1 inch in length.  They have 3 long bristles on their rear and 2 long antennae that curve.  They prefer to live in dark damp places such as basements, attics, kitchens and bathrooms.  Silverfish are attracted to paper and damp clothes or fabric.  They have been known to feed on paper, shampoos, glue in books, silk, and dead insects.  They are also a major pest in stored foods.

Our pest control program is a great way to manage silverfish. Reducing moisture in and around the building will greatly impact Silverfish population.
