Although Bees look fairly the same regarding physical features, that is not the case.  There are around 20,000 different species in the world.

Thought they may look like regular Bumble Bees, but they are not.  Although they look similar, they have their differences.  They do not usually have yellow stripes.  This particular Bee also loves wood structures.

When most people think of Bees, they think honey.  However, when it comes to Carpenter Bees, it is quite the opposite.  Carpenter Bees do not live in nest or makes hives.  This particular Bee lives in wood structures.  Female Carpenter Bees bore into soft wood structures.  The purpose of this is to lay their eggs to protect their larvae as they develop.

Carpenter Bees are yellow or black in color and have 6 legs.  They can grow up to an inch in length and are an oval robust shape.  Typically, the adults will hibernate through Winter and come out during the Spring to feed on nectar.

If Carpenter Bees are not treated for, they can cause structural damage.  Although the males are territorial, they do not have a stinger.  Hovering in front of you in an aggressive state is just for show.  Female Carpenter Bees have a stinger, but it is rarely used.
