  • Before having anyone over, check your screen doors for any holes.  Repair any tears or damage to the screen that could invite pests indoors.  Remind your guests to shut the door behind them as well.
  • Have insect repellant readily available.  Repellants containing an EPA-registered active ingredient like DEET or Picaridin are most effective.
  • Stinging insects are attracted to sweet-smelling fragrances.  Avoid using excessive perfume or cologne, and only use unscented lotions and sunscreens.
  • Ditch the cans!  Provide your guests with plastic cups.  Aluminum cans are too easy for stinging pests to hide in.
  • Place citronella candles around your patio or deck.  This will help minimize the presence of Mosquitoes.
  • Serve any food and beverages indoors.  Keep the outdoor space for eating and entertaining.
  • Clean spills and crumbs immediately from tables and other surfaces.
  • Take the trash out!  Keep any trash in tightly closed garbage containers located away from guests.
  • Bring utensils and dishware indoors shortly after any meal.
